Veronica Coffin Clark, The Artist

I was born doodling. My entire life I put pen to paper making lines and shapes. It wasn’t a want, it was a physical need. It has never let up. I grew up in a bountiful art community in the Northeastern United States. I loved photography, painting, anything artsy I could get my hands on. After college, and a successful career as a public speaker for domestic violence and sexual assault non profits, we started a family and I began teaching art out of my home. We fully immersed our two daughters in art and learning from a very young age. I am inspired by landscapes, whether it be mountains or someone’s front yard. Lines and doodles spring at me from roadways, floors, ceilings, and buildings. Colors mesmerize me from a sunset to a day at the rodeo or my daughter’s beautiful hair. Inspiration is everywhere. It surrounds me. Calling to me to do something with it.

I focus on two mediums:

My acrylic paintings are easily recognizable by the myriad of lines, organic shapes, and bold bright color combinations. Layers are added, often times going from a dark moody underpainting to playful and positive finished painting.

The watercolor paintings are similar in style with a greater sense of whimsy. Illustrative in nature, they blend the real and the fantasy. Identified by the lines and dots, these paintings are full of playfulness and fancy.

Watercolor pet portraits are by commission only. Contact artist for more information.

Why do I create art?

It’s simple. It’s essential for life. It is like breathing and eating. It’s necessary for me to survive. Sometimes I don’t know I’m doing it. I walk out of church and my church program is covered in doodles and sometimes my next painting. A meeting ends with an island adventure burgeoning in the margins of my notes. Having dinner and the junk mail and envelopes are covered in designs. I simply art to survive.
